A MICRO PLATING THIN DENSE CHROME APPLICATION THAT ELIMINATES DIMENSIONAL CHANGES

MICRO-E® is a thin dense chrome coating that is an engineering extension of the Electrolizing® coating. MICRO-E® incorporates a multi-step cleaning process along with modified coating application techniques that result in a very hard (72 Rc) but extremely thin surface deposit.

The target deposit thickness of the MICRO-E® coating is specified at 0.00005–0.0003″ per surface, depending on customer requirements. This thin, precise deposit eliminates dimensional changes and the potential for edge build-up.

MICRO-E® orders are subject to the latest advancements in inspection such as the X-ray fluorescence spectrometer (XRF). XRF provides an extremely accurate, non-destructive method to ensure the deposit thickness is within specification.

MICRO-E® COATING FEATURES

The MICRO-E® coating increases wear resistance and performs at <1.2 TWI per AMS 2438. Additionally, it is ASTM-B-117 compliant and provides prolonged corrosion protection even when compared to stainless steel.

The MICRO-E® coating has a hardness rating of 70-72 on the Rockwell C scale and the lubricity is as low as 0.09 CoF. Absolute adhesion is also achieved when applying MICRO-E®; the coating will not chip, flake or peel. The appearance of the coating is a gray satin finish.

TYPICAL MICRO-E® COATING APPLICATIONS

Why would you choose MICRO-E® as opposed to the Electrolizing® coating? Here is a list of applications where the MICRO-E® coating has been used with much success:

  • Mold Cavities
  • Extrusion Dies
  • Core Pins
